FDREL211 Mathew 1-4

I am starting a new blog for my religion classes this year. Today i will be discussing what i have learned in Mathew Chapters 1-4. Matthew is one of my favorite books in the New Testament because we get to hear all the miracles Jesus Christ did in his time. It is a book that demonstrates faith and inspiration.

As I read these chapter i was able to recall on one of the most important doctrines that we follow in our church and that is Baptism by water and fire. In chapter 3 Jesus goes about in the river of Jordan to be baptized by John, "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him" (Matt 3:16). We are taught in the church to follow this doctrine of baptism. When we get baptized we get submerged under water signifying that we are cleansing ourselves from any sin that we have committed. Baptism by fire is when one receives the holy ghost in their lives. We are blessed in this day to be able to get baptized and receive the holy ghost. One great principle i learned is that Jesus was obedient. Jesus did not need to be baptized because he was a perfect being, never had sinned. For him to get baptized was an act of obedience to his Heavenly Father. I learned that i must be more obedient to my father in heaven. This week i plan on being more like Jesus Christ and be more obedient. I will do this by reading my scriptures with more thought and saying my prayers more meaningful. I will also try to follow the commandments more righteously.
